Description:  
The American system of national, state, and local government, including the roles of the United States in global affairs, is analyzed. The basic principles of American social, economic, and political institutions are studied. Democratic beliefs and the importance of participation in the democratic process are emphasized. Virginia's contributions to the governmental process are an integral part of the study. Opportunities are provided to learn about the decision- making process in a democratic society, as well as to refine concept and communication skills required in a participatory democracy.
